Soup Kitchen The Soup Kitchen was the genesis for the Guadalupe Center of Immokalee. In the early 1980s, a group of clergy and lay people working together provided the first “helping hand” to reach out to the migrant workers in the Immokalee community by providing food to the needy. This group evolved into the Guadalupe Social Services, which raised more than $200,000 to remodel a building owned by the Catholic Church of Immokalee for use as a soup kitchen. Since its beginning, the Soup Kitchen has served more than one million hot meals to needy families. Today, the Guadalupe Center’s Soup Kitchen serves more than 75,000 hot lunches a year five days a week (Monday–Friday), with the help of more than 150 volunteers. The Soup Kitchen’s phone number is (239) 657-3202. |
