Soup Kitchen The Soup Kitchen was the genesis for the Guadalupe Center of Immokalee. In the early 1980s, Sisters Jane Burke and Marie McFadden, supported by Father Richard Sanders and many generous laypeople and volunteers, provided one of the first “helping hands” to reach out to the migrant workers in the Immokalee community by providing food to the needy. This group evolved into the Guadalupe Center, which raised more than $200,000 to remodel a building owned by the Catholic Church of Immokalee for use as a soup kitchen. Since its beginning, the Soup Kitchen has served more than one million hot meals to needy families. Today, the Guadalupe Center’s Soup Kitchen serves approximately 50,000 hot lunches a year five days a week (Monday–Friday), with the help of more than 150 volunteers. The Soup Kitchen’s phone number is (239) 657-3202. |
