Guadalupe Center of Immokalee: Breaking the Cycle of Poverty Through Education

SUMMER PROGRAMS

Providing educational opportunities over the three month summer vacation is critically important to the academic success of the children of Immokalee.

In 2004 the Summer Tutoring and Recreation Program (S.T.A.R.) began with 175 students and grows each year. The S.T.A.R. Program combines academics with recreation for a summer experience that is fun and educational. Students are pre and post tested in language, arts, and mathematics and see an average of a 4-8% increase in scores between the two tests.  This prevention of summer learning loss allows our children to start each school year prepared and ready to learn to their potential.
