TUTOR CORPS

The Tutor Corps program is a solution to one of the most crucial educational problems facing Immokalee: high dropout rate and accordingly low post-secondary education. To combat this problem a comprehensive program that helps low-income students graduate from high school and continue on to college was created.

From advising students on class selection to providing Pre-College Summer Experiences to our juniors to helping our seniors through the entire college application process and continuing the follow-up through their time at college, the Tutor Corps program has seen over a 90% success rate on graduating tutors continuing on to college.

Each student that applies for a spot in the Tutor Corps program must complete the following:

- Application complete with two letters of recommendation

- Interview with Tutor Corps Director and High School Guidance Counselor

- Submittal of High School transcripts (continues upon acceptance to monitor student grades)

- Maintain a 3.0 GPA throughout High School

Upon acceptance into the Tutor Corps program the student will receive:

- $4,000 in college scholarship money for each year they are a part of Tutor Corps

- A volunteer mentor who provides support and motivation for the student

- An opportunity to work and earn a wage as a tutor in one of the Guadalupe Center's programs

- Educational counseling with the long-term goal being to attend and graduate from college

The goal of the Tutor Corps program is to provide the students with the best educational resources that are available so that they can achieve their personal goals of post-secondary education. We believe that it is through achieving these goals that the lasting impact on the individual families and ultimately the community will be realized.
